Canadian Mesothelioma Symposium

AREA Fund was a Bronze Level Sponsor for the 2012 Canadian Mesothelioma Symposium hosted by the BC Cancer Agency in Vancouver, BC at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. AREA Fund also assisted in promoting the Symposium through social media.

The Canadian Mesothelioma Symposium covered topics including the basic science of mesothelioma and its epidemiology, which was of particular value to health care professionals and researchers interested in malignant mesothelioma. The Symposium also included presentations on compensation for asbestos-related diseases, the registry for the miners of Baie Verte, as well as an excellent overview of the entire asbestos industry here in Canada, including the asbestos lobby controversy and Canada’s role in the global asbestos trade.

The Symposium closed with a showing of the Canadian documentary “Breathtaking: A Personal Investigation into the Present-Day Use of Asbestos”.
